Shay McKeever
Upper Key Stage 2 Phase Leader
My name is Shay McKeever and I am privileged to be both a Year Six class teacher and the Upper Key Stage Two Phase Leader here at GEMS Wellington School. I am originally from County Armagh in Ireland and I have seven years experience teaching in British curriculum schools both here in Qatar and in the United Kingdom. In addition to this, I have also worked in Thailand and China in a teaching and non-teaching capacity.
In my eyes, a classroom that embraces each child in their own way is essential in developing them both academically and socially. Here at GEMS, pupils develop their resilience, confidence and independence in their approach to their learning and we also aim to impart upon them the ability to take risks and learn from their mistakes as it is a vital part of life. For me, the most enriching aspects of being a teacher are the transformations of the pupils under our stewardship as well as the life skills they obtain as they continue on through their learning journey.
Outside of school, I enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures as well as editing videos of my travels in my spare time. In addition to this, I like reading, watching sports and listening to a wide variety of music.
